DIY Sunday and Chocolate Brownies

Le Boyfriend and I are slowly filling up the apartment with furniture, decorations and things of the sort. Yes I know…. we moved here 3 months ago already, but baby steps my little grasshopper…baby steps.
One of my mayor issues with this “minimalistic” look, is that Le Boyfriend’s computer is now on our coffee table and given the way we have arrange things at the moment the only way to go from one end of the apartment to the other is by jumping over him and stepping over the couch (which has become quite annoying lately)

Having said that, we decided that it was time to buy some desks for our studio, and since he wants a specific super geek techno desk for his “Battlestation” (please don’t ask) we though we should start with mine, a simple wooden trestle desk, which is basically two trestle and a wooden plank, done…sorted…but no… because it seemed that the only way to get a F*$@$&$ wood trestle leg here is by paying $200 each on Trademe of shipping the whole desk from Ikea for $600. In Argentina you can get trestles for coins, we couldn’t believe there were so expensive, so we decided to make our own desk.

So this weekend was all DIY related, I bought some spray paint and “refurbished” an old bike we got from some friends, it was quite rusty and it was painted with some bright blue paint so I though it could use some fresh paint, and Le Boyfriend went to Mitre10 with our very own “DIY go to-friend” (lets call him A) and got all the supplies and wood planks to build the table (believe me, all of it plus tools was cheaper than the “trademe” trestle on its own) It took half a Saturday and half Sunday but the desk is pretty much done thanks to Le Boyfriend and A (cue manly music) and after the hard work I repay them the best way I know…by baking brownies.

So yes, this weekend was pretty much house related… well and world cup related, (given that Argentina played on Sunday and we won so now we are on the semifinals or something of the sort…as you may see I’m not much of a football fan) and we are still waiting on some furniture to arrive this week so if you are keen im happy to show you how some things are turning up, Im still not sure if I should paint the desk or leave it as it is (maybe the trestle leg white?) what do you think?

[Spanish Version]

Le novio y yo estamos llenando poco a poco el departamento con muebles, decoraciones y cosas por el estilo. Sí, lo sé…. nos mudamos hace 3 meses ya, pero ya vamos a llegar mi pequeño saltamontes … ya vamos a llegar.

Lo que ultimamente me esta molestando de este aspecto “minimalista”, es que la computadora de Le novio ahora está en nuestra mesa ratona, y dada la forma en que organizamos el living por el momento la única manera de ir de un extremo de la casa a la otra es por saltando por encima de él y pasando por encima del sillón (y se volvió muy molesto últimamente)

Habiendo dicho eso, decidimos que era el momento de comprar algunas mesas para nuestro estudio, y dado que él quiere un escritorio tecno geek muy específico para su “Battlestation” (por favor, no pregunten) pensamos en empezar con la mía, un simple mesa de caballetes de madera, que es, básicamente, dos caballetes y un tablón de madera, hecho …terminado… pero no … porque parecía que la única manera de conseguir un P$&@ caballete aca es o pagando $200 cada uno en Trademe de enviarme todo el escritorio desde Ikea por $600. En Argentina te tiran los caballetes por la cabeza, no podíamos creer que eran tan caros, así que decidimos hacer nuestro propio escritorio.

Así que este fue un fin de semana “Hágalo uds mismo”, compré un poco de pintura en aerosol y “reforme” una vieja bicicleta que recibimos de algunos amigos, estaba bastante oxidada y era de un color azul brillante, así que pensé de que le podía venir bien podría utilizar un poco de pintura nueva, y le novio fue a Mitre10 (Easy) con nuestro propio amigo “Bob el constructor” (llamemoslo A) y nos dieron todos los suministros y tablones de madera para construir el escritorio (créanme, todo mas las herramientas fueron más barato que comprar un caballete en trademe) Les tomó medio sábado y domingo, pero el escritorio esta practicamente listo gracias a Le novio y A (inserte música varonil) y después del duro trabajo les pague de la mejor manera que pude….cocinando Brownies.

Así que sí, este fin de semana fue más o menos dedicado a la casa … bueno, y al mundial, (dado que Argentina jugó el domingo y ganamos así que ahora estamos en las semifinales o algo por el estilo … como ven no soy muy fanática del fútbol) y todavía estamos esperando que lleguen algunos muebles esta semana, así que si están interesados estoy feliz de mostrarles cómo algunas cosas están quedando, todavía no está segura si debo pintar la mesa o lo dejarla como esta (¿tal vez pintar los caballetes de blanco?) ¿qué les parece?
